PROGENY DISPLAY A GREAT SUCCESS

Albury, NSW -January 24, 2006 -ABS Australia’s Progeny Showcase for International Dairy Week was once again a tremendous success with over 300 people attending. Local dairymen joined by breeders and industry representatives from throughout Victoria, interstate and overseas were able to inspect large numbers of daughters from the key ABS Australia sires. Held at the ABS Australia Byrneside branch office, the display brought together almost 50 milking daughters of leading first and second crop sires available from the large range ABS has on offer.

Some of the highlights included large daughter groups sired by ROY, GOLDBULLION, LUCKYSTRIKE, CALVIN and FLOWERPOWER.

LUCKYSTRIKE, who will have his second crop proof in February, was the talk of the event. His progeny were a group of deep, wide, open and powerful young cows with well attached, silky udders and walking on very correct legs with excellent foot shape and angle. The second crop LUCKYSTRIKE daughters has been generating a lot of positive feedback from farmers and herd improvement providers and ABS Australia expects he will be one of their most popular bulls in 2006.

Also on display were daughters of the two high type JUROR sons ROY and GORDON.

The ROYs exhibited what customers have come to expect from the sire – tall, long-bodied black cattle with extremely shallow udders and exceptional teat placement. ROY ranks in the top five bulls for type and udders in the US, Canada, UK and Holland and judging by the daughters on display it is highly possible he will do the same in Australia. This global favourite has sold over 1 million units of semen around the world and is still in high demand, a true testament to his ability.

The GORDONs consistently displayed strong, powerful frames and very correct udders. Unfortunately GORDON died recently and his semen availability is limited so this extremely popular sire will be in high demand.

CALVIN also created a lot of interest, with his daughter group consisting of cows with exceptional frames and very correct legs and feet with high, wide rear udders and the ability to add some teat length. This James son offers breeders an outcross sire who is a type and component specialist.

For the Jersey enthusiasts, the display of FLOWERPOWER offspring featured an exciting group of first and second calf daughters that were clean boned and very dairy, with high, wide rear udder attachments. FLOWERPOWER is winning breeders over with hard-working daughters that classify well and rank high in all workability traits.

The barbecue lunch provided by ABS Australia also proved to be a big hit and allowed an opportunity for farmers and industry representatives to catch up.
