ABS AUSTRALIA ANNOUNCES PURCHASE OF ADVANCE GENETICS

Albury, NSW -December 20, 2005 -ABS Australia announced the acquisition of Advance Genetics, based in Warrnambool, VIC with offices in Terang and Rocky Cape, Tasmania.

"The addition of Advance Genetics complements our existing retail businesses throughout Western Victoria and South Australia, while also providing us with a retail presence in Tasmania," said Stephen Fried, General Manager of ABS Australia. "The synergies this acquisition will generate guarantee the ability of ABS Australia to improve upon our delivery of reproductive and herd improvement services to the region and provide the springboard for the introduction of new technologies as they become available."

"We are committed to continuing the Advance Genetics tradition of offering customers semen from all suppliers, AB services and herd recording with special attention to quality and value for money" Fried added.

"Advance Genetics is keen to ensure that our customers have access to the latest products and services that are more readily available through a global organization," explained Paul Quinlan, General Manager of Advance Genetics. "Herd sizes are on the rise and farmers are seeking more services from their herd improvement specialists. This will translate to greater demands on the AB provider of the future who must be prepared to provide leading-edge resources to meet these changing needs, enabling farmers to maximize their profit and lifestyle."

Advance Genetics Tasmanian partner Mark Handley also welcomed the acquisition, adding that it would allow AG's personnel to maintain their contact and role with farmers. "The three partners of Advance Genetics will continue to manage the business, and the current technicians will still provide the services, " he said.

AG Operations Manager, John McKinnon said ABS offered a similar vision for the herd improvement industry as that held by Advance Genetics' founders. "We elected to join ABS because of the company's commitment, both financially and professionally, to investing in the Australian herd improvement industry. It's this commitment that meant we would be able to continue to offer the best products at competitive, viable prices."

All services and staff will be maintained through this acquisition and the expectation is that under ABS ownership new opportunities will be available to employees and customers alike.

Based in Albury, NSW, ABS Australia is a subsidiary of Genus plc, the largest supplier of bovine genetics and related reproductive products in the world. For further information please contact contact Stephen Fried on 02 6049 9200, or sfried@absglobal.com.
