ABS AUSTRALIA HIGH RELIABILITY, PERFORMANCE AND DIVERSITY

Albury, NSW -August 19, 2005 - The August proof release again highlighted the advantages that ABS Australia offers Australian dairy farmers through its ability to source genetics from Australia and around the world, ensuring the supply of high reliability, performance and diversity.

One of the most significant highlights of the run was the stability of the ABS Australia team, whether adding second crop daughters or first crop daughters adding extra lactation information, there has been little change to the overall performance of the team.

This consistent performance provides confidence for dairy farmers and retains value in the resulting progeny, according to ABS Australia Sire Analyst, Graeme Gillan.

"Australian highlights include the continued great performance of GOLDBULLION who now with over 5,500 daughters and continues as our most popular sire due to his ability to sire a combination of strength and dairyness, well attached udders and great workabilities," Mr. Gillan said.

Another asset GOLDBULLION now offers is his above average semen fertility coupled with his exceptional daughter fertility rating of +2.6, ranking him amongst the best for this important trait.

"Another of our high demand sires, 29H9154 Gordon had a great day, receiving his first production ABV which was significantly higher then his Interbull data," Mr. Gillan said. "Add his fantastic workabilities, great udders and ability to sire strength and capacity, it is no wonder this Juror son has become a part of breeding programs through out Australia."

The bull that has been generating considerable second crop excitement is LUCKYSTRIKE. He increased nicely for production and maintained his great components, resulting in an increase in his ASI score.

Slightly increasing for milk and maintaining his great components, LUCKYSTRIKE saw an increase in his ASI score.

"Add the tremendous feedback from dairy farmers milking LUCKYSTRIKE daughters and we are pleased that we have sampled a number of his sons," Mr. Gillan said.

When highlighting ABV results, it is important to mention the contribution of DONOR. He is not only a great of the breed due to his ability to maintain his outstanding proof at the top of the breed, but also now due to his recognition as a great sire of sons.

"When we compare DONOR with his contemporaries, he stands head and shoulders above and, importantly, is still playing an active role as he is alive, well and producing semen."

Mr Gillan said as he reviewed the mainline bulls in the ABS team which are Australian proven and are represented in our Packs it was pleasing to note their consistent proofs throughout the year. Bulls such as DARNAM, PANTHERET and ABSGALE represent great value and newcomers CALVIN and CLEARVIEW add further diversity to the team, he said.

Internationally, the August run further strengthened the ABS line-up. Breed leaders from the U.S., Germany, UK and Canada add great depth to the ABS team through their pedigree diversity, extra type and high production.

Reviewing the U.S. highlights, 29HO9023 Roy again stands out for his tremendous type. Second crop daughters in the U.S., Canada and the UK have only positively impacted on his great figures.

Adding greater depth to the ABS offering for type is the May release sire 29HO10644 Garrison and the August release new sire 29HO10889 DRAKE.

Garrison added further daughters to see his already great type proof increase to +2.12 PTAT, and is already being used as a sire of sons.

"DRAKE’s dam is the Patron Debbie Jo, thus Drake has Dellia on both sides of his pedigree and he does not let her down," Mr Gillan said. Drake also offers +2.99 Udder Composite and +2.67 PTAT plus the bonus of being calving ease.

Two bulls that provide high reliability calving ease and much more are ABSBOLIVER and BROOKVIEW. Both bulls excel for type and rank in the top 20 for TPI; also not to be overlooked are their scores for Productive Life and daughter fertility.

From Germany, the highlights would be the performance of May release sire GGJANNSEN and the continued second crop success of GGFABER, continuing to add confidence in the performance of the German bulls.

GGJANNSEN is the high reliability Jocko son from a Mandel from the same family that brought the Holstein world Blackstar. Increased reliability has seen improvements for production and for type. Daughters inspected have created tremendous feedback, adding great value to the ABS Premier Pack.

Second crop success story GGFABER continues to capture the attention of Red and White breeders around the world, adding a further 2,500 daughters and lifting production while maintaining his high type. When looking at second crop success GGJUOTE holds his place being the number two second crop bull for type in Germany.

"The August proofs again confirmed the ABS approach in making available high reliability genetics adding value to breeding programs throughout Australia," Mr. Gillan said. "For more detail on the August ABS results the Spring Update will be available shortly."
